Episode 159: WCW Great American Bash 1990

This is one of the best shows from this era of WCW and one of the greatest Great American Bash shows of all time! Your hosts, Troy & Greg, have personally seen this show 3-4 times. It was Sting's crowning achievement of FINALLY beating Ric Flair to sit atop the mountain as the WCW World Heavyweight Champion. The future Undertaker, "Mean" Mark Callous, also takes on Lex Luger for Luger's United States Title. This was actually Mark's "audition" for the WWF, which we discuss on the podcast. The NWA World and United States Tag Titles are on the line in matches. Vader debuts for WCW against the Z-Man. There are quite a few outdated things on this show that may make you cringe and...oh yeah...El Gigante debuted. But, other than that...this was pretty great! Episode 158: WWE Great American Bash 2004

The main event involved murder. That's right! On a major WWE pay-per-view, someone was going to die. Why? Who knows! The Undertaker was fighting for the life of Paul Bearer against the Dudley Boyz in a handicap match dubbed The Concrete Crypt match. It was never said that if the Undertaker lost, Paul would be buried in concrete. Paul Heyman simply said that if the Undertaker "didn't do the right thing," Bearer would be buried. W...T...F? Also on this card, Eddie Guerrero puts his WWE Title on the line against JBL in a Texas Bullrope match, the US Title is on the line as John Cena defends against RVD, Booker T, and Rene Dupree, Rey Mysterio faces off with Chavo Guerrero, and much more. Episode 157: WWF King of the Ring 1994

Wrestling was in a weird place in 1994. Having said that, this may have been one of the weakest King of the Ring events of all time, but we did get one of the greatest matches under 4 minutes ever and a glimpse into the future of the WWF as Diesel takes on Bret Hart. The main event of this show was also one straight out of the Over the Hill Club as Jerry "The King" Lawler and "Rowdy" Roddy Piper face off in a comedically bad match that even bordered on "boring" at times. At least we've got some interesting news as Hulk Hogan joins WCW, there are 2 Undertakers, Smoky Mountain Wrestling is struggling to stay afloat, and nutty Herb Abrams is planning on running UWF in a HUGE building in Las Vegas, Nevada! Episode 156: ROH SuperCard of Honor VII

The biggest moment of Jay Briscoe's career happened at this show, in the Hammerstein Ballroom in New York City. Possibly the biggest name Ring of Honor had seen in years, Kevin Steen (now Kevin Owens in WWE) was the reigning ROH Champion and had Steve Corino's SCUM stable backing him up. All the odds were stacked against Jay, and this was fantastic! Jay Lethal also did battle with Michael Elgin for #1 contendership at the World Title, the American Wolves faced off against reDRagon for the ROH Tag Titles, Roderick Strong took on "Machine Gun" Karl Anderson, and much more! On April 29, 1999, WWF basically aired a pilot for SmackDown! on UPN. Not a whole lot of great wrestling happened here, but there were some good moments. The New Age Outlaws went for the World Tag Titles and then split up, Vince McMahon tries to show a kinder side of himself, X-Pac and Kane continue their weird partnership, Ken Shamrock and the Big Show look for revenge on The Corporation, and The Corporate Ministry officially forms. Episode 155: WCW Slamboree 1996 (Battle Bowl)

THAT'S RIGHT! IT'S BATTLE BOWL! What does that mean? It means we're getting 30 matches on 1 freaking pay-per-view. Will they mean anything? Sure, if you think "randomly" selecting tag partners to face off until they finally get into a mid-card battle royal where the prize is a literal ring...then yeah, it means something. Besides that, we've got Dean Malenko putting his Cruiserweight Title on the line against Brad Armstrong (older brother of Road Dogg), Konnan defending the United States Title against Jushin Thunder Liger, and The Giant defending his World Heavyweight Title against Sting. While WCW was about to hit a super hot period, you couldn't necessarily tell by this card. It's okay, though, because we spice it up and have a lot of laughs! Episode 154: ECW Hardcore Heaven ’99

For an ECW, we've done way worse and we WILL DO way worse. This one actually wasn't that bad. There were, per usual, a lot of very questional booking decisions. There were also some God awful matches and the usual ECW tropes. However, those weren't enough to drag this show down to the depths of usual ECW pay-per-views. Taz was supposed to wrestle Chris Candido in the main event, but that didn't happen because Candido and Tammy were leaving, so Heyman wanted to squash him early. So, instead, we get a thread with the Dudley Boys all night, taking out randos and then trying to take out Taz. Besides that, we got possibly the greatest RVD vs. Jerry Lynn match ever, Little Guido taking on Yoshihiro Tajiri, a special appearance by Sid, and much more! Episode 153: WWE Judgment Day 2004

The set is one of the most iconic ever for a WWE pay-per-view, but one word sums this show up: mid! From surprisingly disappointing matches from RVD & Rey Mysterio vs. The Dudley Boyz to Undertaker vs. Booker T, to not shockingly disappointing matches like Rico & Charlie Haas vs. Hardcore Holly & Billy Gunn to John Cena vs. Rene Dupree to Torrie Wilson vs. Dawn Marie, and even the debut of Mordecai vs. Scotty 2 Hotty...this show was meh. The main event was incredibly bloody, however, when Eddie Guerrero literal buckets of blood while defending his WWE Title against John "Bradshaw" Layfield. So...that was interesting! There was also a SERIOUSLY racist promo before the main event, delivered by JBL. Episode 152: WCW WrestleWar 1992

This really was a 1-match show, but that 1 match sure delivered the goods! In the main event WarGames match, Sting's Squadron (Sting, Barry Windham, Dustin Rhodes, Ricky Steamboat and Nikita Koloff) faced off against the Dangerous Alliance (Steve Austin, Rick Rude, Arn Anderson, Bobby Eaton and Larry Zbyszko) in a bloody, brutal, awesome match full of carnage! A match to determine the #1 contenders for the IWGP Tag Team Titles (involving the Steiners) is also pretty good, partners Flyin' Brian and The Z-Man explode for the WCW Light Heavyweight Championship, Terry Taylor and Greg Valentine defend the WCW US Tag Titles against the Fabulous Freebirds, and Johnny B. Badd is in action. We've also got a lot of goofy gimmicks like Big Josh and the Super Invader, so there's that. TNA was shippin' off the Boston for 2008's Lockdown event! In the main event, we've got Samoa Joe vs. Kurt Angle for the TNA World Title and Joe's career is on the line. In Lethal Lockdown, it's an all-star cast of Team Christian Cage vs. Team Tomko! The rest of the card was...meh. It was there. It was nothing to write home about, but we have some fun laughing at some of this ridiculous booking. There are multiple matches where they try to see how many people you can jam into one cage, one match where you have to handcuff your opponents to the cage to eliminate them, and there are some goofy freaking gimmicks all over this card.
