Episode 142: TNA Against All Odds 2012

Four of the top names in the company faced off in a World Title main event match with the iconic, legendary Sting at ringside. How could this show NOT be a smash hit!? Well...we'll explain it to you. "Against All Odds" seems to be a metaphore for this company refusing to give up the ghost. It's unkillable! But specifically about show, it seemed like an extended episode of iMPACT!. Sure, Austin Aries tore it up with Alex Shelley and AJ Styles had a decent match with Kazarian. But the story of it all was, "It could have been better." Even Gail Kim vs. Tara was a bit of a miss. There was something a tad off about this, and the company as a whole, in early 2012. We delve into that a bit on this podcast. Also, a scary injury takes place in the opening match of the show. BONUS: WWF Raw, 02-05-01 (Last Raw at the Georgia Dome)

This was, to use a technical term, A SHOW. That was about it. For the final time WWF Monday Night Raw ever took place from the Georgia Dome in Atlanta, it sure was a showcase of mediocrity. However, who the hell did they have to compete against!? As we mention in the news, ECW was all but shutdown at this time and WCW was supposedly shutting down temporarily after being sold to Eric Bischoff and his investors. Oh, how naïve we were to believe that WCW would live. Either way, Molly Holly is hunting down Raven and his masked female friend. The Kat is leading the charge against the Right to Censor with her "right to nudity" campaign (completely real). We see copious amounts of Vince McMahon perving on Trish Stratus in his office. Enemies The Rock and Kurt Angle are teamed up to take on two more enemies, Triple H and Stone Cold Steve Austin, to compete in the main event. We do get an Intercontinental Title and Tag-Team Title match on this show, however. And yes, there are tons AND TONS of mentions of the XFL across this show. Speaking of dying companies... The main event saw Lex Luger defend the WCW World Heavyweight Championship against his best friend, Sting in Luger's final match in WCW until 1995. Also, the Dangerous Alliance is all over this card! Jushin Thunder Liger is taking on Flyin' Brian Pillman for the Light Heavyweight Championship. Arn Anderson and Bobby Eaton defend the World Tag Team Titles against The Steiner Brothers. Also, Barry Windham and Dustin Rhodes team up to take on "The Cruncher" Larry Zbyszko and "Stunning" Steve Austin. This was definitely a "we watched it so that you don't have to" type of show. Taz and Sabu get into a brawl on the show, many matches start and never finish, Sid appeared on the show to powerbomb some fools, the Dudley Boyz reveal their "mysterious benefactor," and we also had a couple of decent matches on the show. Super Crazy and Yoshihiro Tajiri locked up while Rob Van Dam and Jerry Lynn do battle over the TV Title to close the show. Episode 139: NWA WrestleWar 1990: Wild Thing

This was a time in wrestling that was plagued by "Who could've foreseen that happening!?" In the NWA, Sting tore up his knee and completely tanked the idea to crown him the new champion at WrestleWar '90. So, what was the 180 NWA decided upon to face Ric Flair? Lex Luger! He was a fine replacement, but he didn't get the momentous win that Sting would have gotten. Also on this card, Dan Spivey completely no-showed, so in a Chicago Street Fight, the Road Warriors take on Mean Mark Callous and "the masked Skyscraper". The Midnight Express and Rock 'n' Roll Express also have, for their standards, a very average match that drags on forever. Flyin' Brian & Z-Man defend the US Tag Titles against the Freebirds, the Steiner Brothers defend the World Tag Titles against Ole & Arn Anderson, and much more! On the WWF side, they had to scramble to replace special guest referee Mike Tyson after he was knocked out in the Tokyo Dome by Buster Douglas. Also, they're working with both NJPW and AJPW. There are tons of contract issues going on in NWA. The AWA uses some disgusting tactics to draw sympathy. The boyhood dream for HBK came true, and now, he returns home a man! Or some such nonsense. This Rumble wasn't beloved by all and didn't get amazing ratings, but the Marks genuinely enjoyed it. This was the first time ever an entrant in the Royal Rumble (Stone Cold Steve Austin) was eliminated, referees didn't see it, so they entered back into the ring and won the match. We discuss that as well as reviewing the rubber match for Sycho Sid and Shawn Michaels in the Alamodome for the WWF Title, Mexican lucha libre company AAA is involved in this gigantic show, Ahmed Johnson and Faarooq get their hands on one another, and much more. In May of 2001, Triple H tore his quad muscle clear off the bone during a tag-team match. He spent the rest of the year down in Alabama, rehabbing and getting stronger. When he finally returned on Monday Night Raw in Madison Square Garden in January of 2002, he got a god-like reception! However, he completely missed out on the entire Invasion storyline.
