We're going back to the worst year in wrestling history. Every single American company was in the crapper throughout the majority of this year, and ECW was no different. Heat Wave: Rage in the Cage! was an interesting show in the way that it was incredibly hard to get through. If you're looking for good matches, great storytelling, or anything that resembled a coherent wrestling show, this is not for you. Troy & Greg held their noses through this one, but the worst shows are sometimes the most fun to review. They didn't have fun watching it, but they had tons of fun talking about it. Many of life's great questions are answered on this podcast as well, such as, "Who are Dudley Dudley and Snot Dudley?" "Was Disco Inferno ever in ECW?" "Can you lose a match from getting your balls squeezed?" "How long can a senseless brawl with tons of people go on for?" "How many times can you possibly book Raven on a single show?" and "When you put the Public Enemy and the Gangstas in a match together, which team will embarrass themselves more?" TNA Wrestling turned 10-years-old in June of 2012, and everything is bigger in Texas (including anniversaries)! For it's birthday/anniversary, the longest reigning TNA World Heavyweight Champion in history, Bobby Roode, defends the title against "The Icon" Sting the same night Sting is announced as going into the TNA Hall of Fame. Jeff Hardy, Rob Van Dam, and Mr. Anderson...Anderson all compete for the next in line for that World Title. Bully Ray seeks to brutalize Joseph Park, but will Abyss rear his ugly head? Gail Kim puts the Knockouts Women's Title on the line against Texas's own Miss Tessmacher. Also, WWE's Christian comes back for one night only...in the most anti-climactic way possible. TNA Slammiversary V wasn't a show that exactly set the woods on fire, but overall, it was a pretty decent show. It was a time capsule of where TNA (now Impact Wrestling) was at the time. Can you believe they started in 2002 and are still around!? The main event is TNA's signature King of the Mountain match between Kurt Angle, AJ Styles, Christian Cage, Samoa Joe, and Chris Harris (replacing Jeff Jarrett). Jeff Jarrett couldn't attend the show after the passing of his wife, Jill. Rick Steiner also had to find a replacement partner as he took on Team 3D when Scott nearly died from a throat injury suffered in Puerto Rico. All of that is combined with Abyss and Tomko having a ridiculous No Disqualification match that you have to see to believe. Back in 1992, WCW was an interesting place. Ric Flair, who was the hood ornament for WCW for years was now in the WWF. Ricky Steamboat was back, Sting stepped up as a top guy, and Rick Rude came into the "company down south" to be a main eventer. Slamboree was never one of WCW's marquee events throughout the year, but they tried to bring the goods in one of greatest years in company history (at least in our opinions). Not only did former Chicago Bear, Steve "Mongo" McMichael go one-on-one with Green Bay Packer and future Hall of Famer, Reggie White, but North Carolina Panther and future Hall of Famer, Kevin Greene, teamed with the legendary "Rowdy" Roddy Piper and "Nature Boy" Ric Flair to take on the NWO team of Kevin Nash, Scott Hall, and Syxx. Chris Benoit faced off against Meng in a Death Match, the Dungeon of Doom implodes, Glacier and Mortis continue their feud as Wrath is brought into the fold, Ultimo Dragon and Lord Steven Regal have a banger for the TV Title, and Rey Mysterio Jr. takes on a NJPW star. Coming out of WrestleMania I, we had Saturday Night's Main Event debuting on NBC in May of 1985! These shows were always structured weird, and this one was the first one to do so. The "main event" was actually the second match on the show, with Hulk Hogan defending the WWF Title against "Cowboy" Bob "Ace" Orton. Wendi Richter also puts her WWF Ladies Wrestling Title on the line against the legendary Fabulous Moolah while Cyndi Lauper cheers her on. The show also takes place on Mother's Day, so we get a lot of special stuff going on to celebrate mothers (oddly enough, Mr. T doesn't talk about his mama). In the news, we also talk for almost an hour about the state of the territories in the United States as well as wrestling abroad in Japan and in Mexico.
